Problem

There are over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia in 2020, and 80% are taken care of at home by family caregivers providing 37 billion hours of unpaid care each year. Family caregivers usually have limited experience and training, and there are very few products in the market that help caregivers improve the quality of caregiving and engagement at home.

Approach

From conducting primary and secondary research related to dementia, the team explored this whole problem space via interviews and observations. They were able to scope down to their final user group, the family caregiver since this group has great unmet needs.

Solution

Their solution is a tablet-based web application that combines a tangible user interface including a reflector, stand, and customized plate for family caregivers to arrange and conduct various pre-programmed interactive activities.
