Capstone Project

Elevator Cleanliness Detection

Problem

Sound Transit spends $555 million over 20 years on elevator maintenance, yet unexpected cleanliness issues persist. These issues reduce accessibility and satisfaction, especially for elderly and disabled passengers.

Approach

The team conducted secondary research, surveys, interviews, and direct observations. They evaluated existing technologies and developed a multi-sensor IoT system.

Solution

An integrated system using odor and moisture sensors to monitor elevator conditions. It enables quick detection and reporting of cleanliness issues to reduce downtime and improve rider experience.
